Man, 63, charged with assault after five-day-old baby 'punched in the head in Tesco'


A pensioner has been charged with assault after a five-day-old baby was allegedly punched in the head in Tesco.


David Hardy, 63, will appear in court next month over the incident at a branch of the supermarket giant in Baguley, Manchester.


Mum Amy Duckers has said her baby Elsie Rose, who weighs just 6lbs and 12oz, was punched by a man as she was showing her off to pals.


Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: “A man has been charged with assault.


“David Hardy, 63, of Longfield Road, Baguley, was charged with assault and has been bailed to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on 4 October 2016.

The alleged attack happened at a branch of Tesco in Baguley, Manchester

“Police were called shortly before 6.45pm to a supermarket on Altrincham Road in Baguley on Monday 5 September 2016 to reports of a child having been hit.


“The baby girl was taken to hospital as a precaution and has since been discharged.”
