Man dies after being found unconscious in lake in early hours of the morning

A man has died after being found unconscious in a lake.

The victim, in his 40s, was discovered by emergency crews in Conningbrook Lake in Ashford, Kent, in the early hours of this morning.

He was pulled from the water and given CPR, before being rushed to hospital . There, he was tragically pronounced dead.

It is unclear how the local man ended up in the lake in Kennington, but police say his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Firefighters and a police dog unit were called to the scene shortly after 1.10am following reports of a ‘non-responsive’ person in the water.

Crews searched the shore with a thermal imaging camera, before entering the water in drysuits and retrieving the man, the fire service said.

The unidentified victim, from the Ashford area, was then treated by paramedics and taken to a local hospital, where he was declared dead.

Kent Police officers are now preparing a report for the coroner.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said in a statement: “Firefighters were called to reports of a non-responsive person in a lake off Willesborough Road, Kennington, near Ashford.

“After searching the lake shore with a thermal imaging camera and assistance from a Kent Police dog unit, crews wearing drysuits entered the water to reach the casualty, using safe access equipment.

“First aid including CPR was given and the casualty was passed to the care of paramedics.”

A Kent Police spokesman told Mirror Online that officers and firefighters were joined at the scene by crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

He added: “The man, who was in his 40s and from the Ashford area, was taken to a local hospital where he has pronounced dead.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and officers will prepare a report for the coroner.”

Conningbrook Lake, which is used by local sports clubs, was sealed off in June after ‘dog-killing’ algae was found growing in it.

The blue-green algae, which can cause humans to develop a skin rash, claimed the lives of three canines who went into the water, Kent News reports.

However, the popular lake has since been reopened after the ‘dispersal’ of the organism.
