‘We Recommend Clinton’: Dallas Morning News Issues First Democratic Endorsement Since WWII

The election will be decided in a handful of battleground states — Ohio, Florida, Virginia and… Texas?

Texas has voted solid conservative, blood red Republican since Texas reluctantly became a part of the U.S. Home to the Bushes, America’s loosest gun laws (C) and the Kennedy Assassination (a Democrat), Texas and its Texas-sized barbecue of electoral votes has always been a freebie to the Republican candidate.

Until maybe now.

The opening lines of the Dallas Morning News editorial this morning say it all:

There is only one serious candidate on the presidential ballot in November. We recommend Hillary Clinton.

Today’s historic endorsement marks the first time since World War II that a Democrat has earned the actual endorsement from the newspaper — “more than 75 years and nearly 20 elections,” they helpfully point out for Texans who choose not to believe in math.

Of course, Clinton isn’t the perfect pick. Question remain about her honesty, points out the Morning News, and “her willingness to shade the truth… But in the scheme of things, they pale in comparison to the litany of evils some opponents accuse her of. Treason? Murder? Her being cleared of crimes by investigation after investigation has no effect on these political hyenas; they refuse to see anything but conspiracies and cover-ups.”

The endorsement isn’t a game-changer per se; it is doubtful many voters still look to their old-timey newspaper for direction on how to vote.

Rather, the endorsement makes concrete a feeling among many Republican voters that their party failed them in sending Trump forward, and this election may be one where they sit home on election day.
