What NFL team is like your Premier League side? Here's who YOU should root for this season

The NFL is back, baby.

The bright lights, brash egos and box office over the topness is back for another season of thrills, spills and highlight reels.

But what if you’re a newbie? What if you don’t know your Belichicks from your Beckhams or your Bells from your Bradys.

Well we are here to help.

We have compared every Premier League team to their American football equivalent so you know just who to root for this coming year.

So without further ado, off we go:

Manchester United > New England Patriots

You like winning. You like having the best manager. You like getting favourable decisions from match officials. You like that every TV pundit likes you. And you really like that everyone else doesn’t like you.

Jose Mourinho has slightly better fashion sense than Bill Belichick

Everton > Green Bay Packers

A people’s club proud of their family roots you are a founding member of the league who likes doing things the right way.

Hull > Washington Redskins

Despite green shoots of revival name changes (or the lack thereof) have too often been the real talking point in recent years with an owner who courts controversy to boot.

Chelsea > Seattle Seahawks

Taken over by a wealthy owner whose purchase brought with it an unheralded period of success. Loved by you, hated even more by everyone else you’re in the mix for the title every year.

Roman Abramovich and Paul Allen have brought about supreme success since taking over

Tottenham > Cincinnati Bengals

A team stacked top to bottom with talent who always threaten to win it all but never quite do. One day you’ll get the big one, but not yet.

Arsenal > Philadelphia Eagles

Do you hate your own team?

Arsenal and Philly fans are like peas in a pod

Swansea > San Diego Chargers

You have a team full of likeable players that play a aesthetically-pleasing brand of football. But, sadly, you ultimately don’t win enough matches year after year.

Southampton > Miami Dolphins

Still clinging on to the glories of the one really great player you had you’ve seen your best go on to other destinations to win things there instead of late.

Dan Marino and Matt LeTissier have more in common than you’d think

Burnley > Detroit Lions

You’re a blue collar, working class, no nonsense team from a blue collar, working class, no nonsense place.

Leicester > Arizona Cardinals

A coming force who had never previously done anything of note. A small market team led by a lovable coach everyone has a soft spot for you, regardless of who they actually support.

Everyone loves Larry Fitzgerald, everyone

Sunderland > Buffalo Bills

A frosty northern outpost starved of success for far too long.

Crystal Palace > Kansas City Chiefs

You like making a lot of noise at home matches and pride yourselves on being the loudest of all. Matters on the field appear to matter a lot less, however, where an awful lot of people dislike your coach with a passion.

Alan Pardew would fit right in in the NFL

Middlesbrough > Houston Texans

Always a big offseason player your success is now built on solid defence. You have a young coach primed to make the leap to the next level.

Bournemouth > Jacksonville Jaguars

A young team packed to the gills with potential you are everyone’s trendy pick for a better season in 2016.

Jack-sonville? Sorry

Watford > Oakland Raiders

Firing coaches year after year has become something of a badge of honour. You have a snappy kit, mind.

West Ham > New York Jets

You were good way back when – and actually won something in the 70s – but despite having a nice shiny stadium and shouty fans you aren’t anywhere near as good any more.

West Ham could do with some Fitzmagic

West Brom > Los Angeles Rams

Very good defensively your performance going the other way leaves a lot to be desired. Your coach is never far away from the exit and is never the media’s favourite on press day either.

Stoke > Chicago Bears

Would you be able to do it on a wet and windy night at Soldier Field?

Leo Messi couldn’t do it here…

Manchester City > San Francisco 49ers

You have the hipster coach who is revolutionising the way football is played – it could see you win it all, it could see it all explode in your face in a ball of flames.

Liverpool > Dallas Cowboys

Were very good in the 80s when you had a raft household names and got a boatload of silverware to show for it. Nowadays you’re just not quite the same having been overtaken by your rivals. But hope springs eternal that one day you’ll climb back to the top.
